Lamtluang Online News: Mizoram Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati met with leaders of oil palm growers from Mamit and Kolasib districts at Raj Bhavan on the morning of 12 December 2024.
The Governor informed the gathering that India is heavily reliant on imported edible oil and emphasized the need to increase domestic production to meet the country's demands.
Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati stated that the Central government is implementing the National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) to increase oilseed production, and efforts are being made to achieve this goal.
He pointed out that Mizoram has the potential to become a major oil palm producer, similar to Malaysia, and stressed the importance of putting in extra effort to achieve this goal.
During the meeting, the oil palm growers' leaders discussed the issue of viability gap payment for the period 2022-2024, which the Central government had been unable to provide due to certain constraints.
The Governor assured them that he would take up the matter with the Central government and ensure that a solution is found at the earliest.
