Lamtluang Online News: The residents of Khuangthing village in Champhai district have earned a substantial income of over ₹60 lakh from selling their freshly harvested Mizo bird's eye chillies (also known as Mizo chilli or Mizo hmarcha), with expectations of earning more in the coming days.
According to a report, the Mizo bird's eye chilli growers of Khuangthing village have generated an income of over ₹60 lakh from selling their chillies harvested in November and December.
The villagers typically harvest the chillies from their surroundings and nearby fields, with the price determined by the quality and quantity, ranging from ₹400 to ₹415 per kilogram.
The villagers anticipate harvesting another batch of chillies during the Christmas and New Year season, hoping to secure a better price than the first batch.
This year, the villagers aim to earn over ₹200 lakh from selling their Mizo bird's eye chillies, surpassing last year's earnings of over ₹120 lakh.
The freshly harvested chillies are usually sold to buyers from outside Mizoram, providing a significant source of income for the villagers.
Khuangthing village comprises 370 households, with approximately 270-280 families engaged in Mizo bird's eye chilli cultivation, which has become a lucrative venture for the community.
