LUNGLEI MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OFFICIALS MEET WITH MEDIA PERSONNEL

Lamtluang Online News: Lunglei Municipal Council (LMC) officials met with media personnel yesterday, 12 December 2024, to discuss their work and future plans. LMC Chairman Pu Lalzuithanga said that the LMC has completed two years and expressed gratitude to the government for their support. As the LMC is expected to be self-sufficient, they are working hard to achieve that goal. The LMC has proposed to the government to collect motor parking fees, advertisement fees, and building regulations and waste management rules. The LMC will receive Rs. 20 crores from the PAHOSS scheme, which will be used for development projects.

The LMC has given permission to 750 people to construct buildings, and has identified two locations for waste management. Work is underway to improve waste collection, and there are 24 sanitation workers working to keep the city clean. The LMC Award 2024 for the cleanest ward will be given in March next year. The LMC Chairman said that the government has given permission to recruit 36 staff members, but due to lack of funds, only five permanent and 13 temporary posts will be filled.

As an Urban Local Body, the LMC will collect property tax at 3.42%, and 80% of the revenue will be used for development projects in the wards. The LMC has taken over the management of the Convention Centre and will also manage the Saikuti Hall. Next year, the LMC plans to give awards to the cleanest wards during Christmas. This year, the LMC Chairman urged the people of Lunglei to keep their homes and surroundings clean.

The meeting was attended by LMC Chairman Pu Lalzuithanga, Vice Chairman Pu K. Lalrinawma, Executive Councillor Pi Lalhruaitluangi Sailo, and Chief Executive Officer Pu Donny Lalruatsanga. A memorial service was held for MJA member Pu Johan Lalhmunmawia, a DDK Stringer, who passed away on 2 December 2024. The LMC donated a sum of money to the family of Pu Johan Lalhmunmawia, which was received by District MJA President Pu Laltlanthanga.
