Lamtluang Online News: Bunghmun village in Lunglei District celebrated its 125th anniversary on 11-12 December 2024, with the theme "Inpumkhatna" (Unity) and held a "Mass Home Coming" event.
The event was attended by Mizoram's Rural Development Minister, Prof. Lalnilawma, as the chief guest. At the celebration, Prof. Lalnilawma congratulated the people of Bunghmun village on their quasquicentennial celebration and praised them.
He acknowledged the contributions of the village's founders and praised the organising committee for their hard work. He announced that the government has plans to develop Bunghmun village and its surrounding areas, and that they will provide support to the best of their ability.
He encouraged the villagers to continue working together for the development of their community, and reminded them that it is important for the villagers to work together with the government for the development of their village. He expressed his desire for the villagers to work together with the government, and to prioritise the needs of the community, rather than individual interests.
He said that the homework should include what is needed to improve the community. He also mentioned that if there's a good plan for community development, the government will definitely support it.
The 125th anniversary celebration of Bunghmun village was held on 11-12 December 2024, with a community gathering in the morning and evening. The event was also attended by Thorang MLA Er R. Rohmingliana, Ex-MLA Pu Zodintluanga, and Ex-MLA Pu B. Lalchungnunga, who delivered speeches.
A documentary about Bunghmun village, produced by the Media & Publicity Committee, was screened, and a report was presented by the Organising Committee Secretary and the Bunghmun RD Block. A ceremony was held to honour the notable personalities of Bunghmun village, and the BCM Bunghmun Pastor Bial Zaipawl, Pu Vanlalsailova, Nl. Feli Hauhnar, Nl. Jenny Zathang, and local artists performed songs that entertained the crowd.
A cultural programme was held in the afternoon of 12 December 2024, and a bonfire was lit in the evening to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Bunghmun village. Bunghmun village was established by Lalhmingliana, the son of Haulawng lal Thangvunga Sailo, with the permission of South Lushai Hills Superintendent Tarmita (Capt. J. Shakespear), and the village has been continuously inhabited since 1899.
Currently, Bunghmun village has around 230 households and a population of approximately 1,250. The village is also the site of a Rural Development Block, which was established in 1974. The village has several important government offices and is a significant town in Lunglei District.
