THENZAWL RESIDENTS LOCK OUT FAMILY OVER ALLEGED NARCOTICS TRAFFICKING

Lamtluang Online News: A family in Thenzawl, Mizoram, was locked out of their residence by local residents and NGOs on 21st November 2024, due to their alleged involvement in narcotics trafficking. The family, comprising Gospel Lalruatfela and his wife Evi Lalramhluni, had been previously penalised and handed over to authorities for their involvement in narcotics trafficking.

According to records, Gospel Lalruatfela and his wife Evi Lalramhluni had been involved in narcotics trafficking since 2015. They had been previously arrested and penalised for their involvement in narcotics trafficking, but had continued to engage in such activities despite warnings and penalties.

In 2015, Evi Lalramhluni was arrested for narcotics trafficking and was issued a warning. However, she continued to engage in such activities and was again arrested in 2016 for narcotics trafficking. She was subsequently expelled from the Young Mizo Association (YMA) Field Veng Branch.

Despite these penalties, the couple continued to engage in narcotics trafficking. In January 2024, they were again arrested for narcotics trafficking and were handed over to the authorities. However, they were released and continued to engage in such activities.

On 3rd November 2024, the couple was again arrested for narcotics trafficking and was found with 37 packets of narcotics (No 4). Despite this, they continued to stay in Thenzawl, prompting the local residents and NGOs to take action against them.

A joint meeting of local NGOs, community leaders, and anti-narcotics groups was held on 8th November 2024, to discuss the issue. The meeting resolved to take strong action against the family, who were seen as a threat to the community.

The family was given an ultimatum to leave Thenzawl by 20th November 2024. However, they failed to comply, leading to the residents and NGOs taking matters into their own hands and locking out the family from their residence.

A notice was posted on the gate of the locked-out residence, stating that the family had been locked out due to their involvement in narcotics trafficking, which was unacceptable to the community.

The incident highlights the strong stance taken by the community against narcotics trafficking and the willingness of residents to take action to protect their neighbourhood.
