Lamtluang Online News: A high-level meeting was held on 21st November 2024, in Lawngtlai District, Mizoram, to discuss the relocation of Bangladeshi refugees. Pu Lalmuanpuia Punte, Adviser to the Chief Minister, chaired the meeting, which was attended by Lawngtlai District officials and representatives from various departments.
Pu Lalmuanpuia Punte emphasized the need for a systematic approach to relocate the refugees, citing the difficulties in providing aid when they are scattered across different villages. He proposed relocating the refugees to four villages: Parva, Damdep-II, Cherluitlang, and Saizawh 'W'.
According to Pu Cheemala Siva Gopal Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Lawngtlai District, there are currently 6,030 refugees from Myanmar, 2,014 from Bangladesh, and 84 internally displaced people from Manipur in Lawngtlai district. The district administration is providing humanitarian assistance, including food supplies, to the refugees.
The Mizoram government is working to provide a long-term solution to the refugee crisis, and the relocation plan is expected to be implemented soon. The government is also collaborating with the Centre to address the refugee crisis and provide necessary assistance.
