Lamtluang Online News, Aizawl, 26th November 2024: The All Mizoram Village Council Association (AMVCA) held a General Conference at Dawrpui Multipurpose Centre today, where they discussed the state government's plan to shorten the term of Village Councils and decided to approach the High Court to protect the rights of Village Councils.
AMVCA President K. Lalngaizuala stated that the members attended the conference in large numbers, and representatives from Aizawl City Local Council Association and Lunglei Local Council Association also spoke on the occasion.
The AMVCA President mentioned that they had opposed the election of Village Councils earlier, and today, they passed a resolution to approach the High Court to protect the rights of Village Councils.
He added that they are not opposed to the shortening of the term of Village Councils, but they are against the undemocratic manner in which the government is trying to impose its decision.
The AMVCA President stated that they will fight to protect the rights of Village Councils and ensure that they are treated fairly and democratically. He also mentioned that they will start consulting with lawyers from tonight to prepare for their case.
