Lamtluang Online News, New Delhi, 19 November 2024: Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar, Mizoram's Minister of State for Sports and Youth Services, met with HCL Foundation and World Bank officials at his office to discuss ways to develop Mizoram.
In New Delhi, Sports Minister Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar met Colonel Gopal Karunakaran, CEO of Shiv Nadar School, and other HCL officials at the HCL Campus in Noida, UP. He stated that Mizoram has begun efforts to participate in India's 2036 Olympics bid. "Mizos have excellent sports talent, but our limited sports budget hindered our youths' potential; thus, we seek collaborative support", he told HCL officials. He emphasized sports' significance for Mizo people as entertainment, livelihood, unity, and anti-addiction.
The Sports Minister added that Mizoram was the first Indian state to host a Sports Conclave aligned with the 2036 Olympics vision. A statewide sports coaching and talent search project is underway, with the State Government allocating funds under the 'Bana Kaih (Handholding) scheme'. The State Government's two football academies are among India's best, producing players for the national team.
Shiv Nadar, CEO, and HCL officials warmly welcomed the Minister, sharing their CSR-driven sports development initiatives across states. They expressed interest in integrating Mizoram's sports academies with their Vidyagyan academy in Noida, exploring potential collaborations.
Earlier, Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar met Pi Benedicté, Lead Economist at the World Bank's New Delhi office. They discussed leveraging sports development in Mizoram for tourism, urban development, health, and anti-addiction initiatives. Further discussions are planned under the World Bank-India partnership.
Pu John Tanpuia, Joint Secretary, S&YS Department, and Pu H. Lalramenga, PS, accompanied the Minister during the meetings.
