Lamtluang Online News, 28 November 2024: The Mizoram government has revoked its order appointing Shivam Siddarth IPS as the new Superintendent of Police (SP) in Lunglei, following strong opposition from the local people.
The Lunglei residents had opposed the appointment of non-local officers to key positions in the district, citing language barriers and unfamiliarity with local dynamics.
The Young Mizo Association (YMA) Sub-Hqrs Lunglei welcomed the revocation of the order, stating that the appointment of non-locals would cause difficulties for the local populace.
The YMA had also expressed disapproval of the appointment of non-locals to key positions in Lunglei district, including the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police (Southern Range).
The outgoing DC had been requested not to be transferred, but the request was unsuccessful.
The DIG (S-R), who is due to retire next year, has been transferred, and a non-local has been appointed in his place.
The Lunglei district, being a vast and diverse area inhabited by people of different communities, necessitates the appointment of officers familiar with the local language and dynamics to maintain law and order effectively.
