MIZORAM GOVERNOR MEETS BISHOP OF AIZAWL AHEAD OF CHRISTMAS

Lamtluang Online News: Mizoram Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati met with Bishop of Aizawl Most Reverend Stephen Rotluanga at his residence in Ramthar Veng, Aizawl, on the evening of 13th December 2024. The meeting was a gesture of goodwill ahead of the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.

During their meeting, Dr. Kambhampati praised the contributions of Catholic churches in Mizoram, particularly in the fields of education and community service. He emphasized the importance of education and healthcare in driving development and encouraged the Bishop to continue their dedicated service to the public.

Bishop Most Reverend Stephen Rotluanga, who is the first Mizo to hold the position of Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Aizawl, expressed his gratitude to the Governor for taking the time to visit him. He also highlighted the efforts of the Catholic Church in Mizoram and their commitment to serving the community.

MYANMAR MILITARY FORCES ATTACK VILLAGE IN SAGAING REGION

Lamtluang Online News: Myanmar military forces have launched an attack on TaPyiThar village in Swebo township, Sagaing region, resulting in the deaths of four people and the destruction of around 200 homes.

The attack, which took place between 7 and 9 December 2024, was carried out by Military council forces and Phyusawhti soldiers. According to a Swebo township PDF official, the four deceased individuals were not revolutionary soldiers or local residents, but rather unknown individuals who were caught in the crossfire.

The official stated that the Military council's attack on the village resulted in significant damage, with around 200 homes destroyed. Additionally, a Phyusawhti soldier was killed and three others injured, including PanYan village leader Aung Kyaw, also known as Awng Chaw, during a bomb attack carried out by the PDO, a local self-defense group.

The attack has raised concerns about the ongoing violence and human rights abuses in Myanmar. The international community has condemned the military's actions and called for an immediate end to the violence.



CHRISTMAS CHARITY INITIATIVE BY CHAMPHAI OFFICERS' CLUB

Lamtluang Online News: Champhai Officers' Club (COC) has continued its annual tradition of spreading Christmas cheer by visiting various locations in Champhai. On 13 December 2024, the club visited nine homes, the District Hospital, and the District Jail in Champhai, bringing joy and festive spirit to the residents.

Through their charitable efforts, COC distributed a total of Rs 82,000 to 11 locations, spreading love and kindness during the festive season. This initiative is a testament to the club's commitment to giving back to the community and making a positive impact on the lives of those in need.

MYANMAR: OVER 300 CIVILIANS KILLED IN FOUR MONTHS

Lamtluang Online News: A report by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) has revealed that over 300 civilians have been killed in Myanmar over the past four months due to aerial bombings and heavy artillery attacks by the military council.

Among the 237 people killed in airstrikes, 47 were children under the age of 18, with the highest number of casualties reported in Rakhein State (88) and Shan State (43).

Additionally, 19 children under the age of 18 were among the 104 people killed by heavy artillery, with the highest number of casualties reported in the Sagaing region (32) and Rakhein (20).

The report covers the period from August 1 to November 30, and the AAPP stated that the names of all the deceased have been documented.

The RFA media could not independently verify the information, and when contacted, Military Council spokesperson Gen. Zaw Min Tun did not respond to their queries.
