PACHHUNGA UNIVERSITY COLLEGE HOSTS MATHEMATICAL OLYMPIAD EXPOSURE CAMP

Lamtluang Online News, Aizawl, December 9, 2024: The Department of Mathematics, Pachhunga University College, is organising a Mathematical Olympiad Exposure Camp from December 9 to 13, 2024. The camp is sponsored by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), Mumbai, with support from the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM), Government of India.

The camp was inaugurated by Dr. Vanlalthlana, Minister of School Education, Government of Mizoram, who emphasized the importance of mathematics in various fields. He stated that mathematics is essential for critical thinking and problem-solving, and that it plays a crucial role in engineering, science, commerce, and economics.

Dr. Vanlalthlana praised the initiative taken by Pachhunga University College in hosting the camp and expressed his hope that the participants would gain valuable insights and develop a deeper interest in mathematics.

The Mathematical Olympiad Exposure Camp has brought together around 90 students from 16 different schools, representing classes 9, 10, and 11. The camp aims to encourage and nurture the mathematical talents of Mizo students, enabling them to compete at the national and international levels.

According to Prof. LP Lalduhawma, Head of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics, the camp is designed to provide a platform for Mizo students to excel in mathematics and represent the state at the national and international levels. Efforts are also being made to establish an Olympiad Exam Centre in Mizoram.

The camp will provide students with an opportunity to engage with renowned mathematicians and educators, participate in problem-solving sessions, and develop their critical thinking and analytical skills.






KHUANGTHING VILLAGERS REAP FINANCIAL BENEFITS FROM MIZO BIRD'S EYE CHILLI CULTIVATION

Lamtluang Online News: The residents of Khuangthing village in Champhai district have earned a substantial income of over ₹60 lakh from selling their freshly harvested Mizo bird's eye chillies (also known as Mizo chilli or Mizo hmarcha), with expectations of earning more in the coming days.

According to a report, the Mizo bird's eye chilli growers of Khuangthing village have generated an income of over ₹60 lakh from selling their chillies harvested in November and December.

The villagers typically harvest the chillies from their surroundings and nearby fields, with the price determined by the quality and quantity, ranging from ₹400 to ₹415 per kilogram.

The villagers anticipate harvesting another batch of chillies during the Christmas and New Year season, hoping to secure a better price than the first batch.

This year, the villagers aim to earn over ₹200 lakh from selling their Mizo bird's eye chillies, surpassing last year's earnings of over ₹120 lakh.

The freshly harvested chillies are usually sold to buyers from outside Mizoram, providing a significant source of income for the villagers.

Khuangthing village comprises 370 households, with approximately 270-280 families engaged in Mizo bird's eye chilli cultivation, which has become a lucrative venture for the community.

LUNGLEI GOVERNMENT COLLEGE ACHIEVES NAAC ACCREDITATION FOR THE THIRD TIME

Lamtluang Online News: Lunglei Government College (LGC) in Mizoram has achieved a significant milestone by securing Grade B+ in the 3rd cycle of NAAC Accreditation, a prestigious assessment of colleges across India. The result was announced on December 6, 2024.

The college's incumbent accreditation process was completed in March 2022, and after making concerted efforts, the institution underwent a spot assessment visit from the NAAC peer team on November 28-29, 2024, and successfully regained its accredited status.

Notably, Lunglei Government College is now among the 19 accredited colleges in Mizoram, with a commendable grade that places it among the top-performing institutions in the state.

The college boasts an impressive infrastructure, with 14 departments, 70 dedicated teachers, and 20 supportive staff members. The institution is home to over 900 students, providing them with a vibrant and inclusive learning environment.

The breakdown of accredited colleges in Mizoram is as follows:

- Grade C: 2 colleges
- Grade B: 10 colleges
- Grade B+: 3 colleges (including Lunglei Government College)
- Grade B++: 1 college
- Grade A: 2 colleges
- Grade A+: 1 college

Total: 19 colleges

This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the college's faculty, staff, and students, and it reinforces the institution's commitment to providing quality education.

AIZAWL POLICE SEIZE FIRECRACKERS WORTH ₹13 LAKH

Lamtluang Online News, 9 December 2024: Aizawl police have seized firecrackers and sparklers worth ₹13,02,658 in recent days. The seizures were made by various police stations in Aizawl, including Aizawl P/S and Vaivakawn P/S.

According to police sources, the seized items include firecrackers and sparklers worth ₹11,82,658 at Aizawl P/S and ₹1,20,000 at Vaivakawn P/S. Five people have been arrested in connection with the seizures and cases have been registered against them.

In preparation for the upcoming festive season, the police are also planning to set up "no vehicle zones" in certain areas of Aizawl on December 23, 24, and 31. The proposal is currently awaiting approval from the Chief Secretary.

To ensure public safety during the festive season, the police have set up two help desks, one at Aizawl New Market area and the other at Israel Point. Additionally, 16 teams have been deployed for duty in various areas of the city, along with quick response teams and mobile patrolling units.

Aizawl Superintendent of Police Rex Zarzoliana Vanchhawng stated that the police are fully prepared to ensure public safety during the festive season. He added that armed battalions have also been deployed to assist with security arrangements.

The police have also divided Aizawl city into three zones for effective policing during the festive season. Quick response teams have been stationed at various police stations, and mobile patrolling units have been deployed to ensure public safety.
