US FOREIGN MINISTER RECOGNISES SALAI MANG HRE LIAN FOR HUMAN RIGHTS WORK

Lamtluang Online News: The US Foreign Minister has awarded Salai Mang Hre Lian, Project Manager of the Chin Human Rights Organisation (CHRO), for his outstanding work in promoting human rights in Myanmar.

This recognition is a testament to Salai Mang Hre Lian's tireless efforts in advocating for the rights of the Myanmar people, particularly in the Chin State.

The award ceremony, held on International Human Rights Day (10 December), was organised by the US Foreign Ministry.

Salai Mang Hre Lian was among nine individuals from around the world, including Azerbaijan, Bolivia, Colombia, Eswatini, Ghana, Kuwait, and Kyrgyzstan, who received the award for their remarkable contributions to human rights.

Salai Mang Hre Lian has been instrumental in promoting human rights in Myanmar, particularly in the Chin State, where he has worked tirelessly to document human rights abuses and advocate for the rights of the Chin people.

His work has been recognised by the US government, which has acknowledged his efforts in promoting human rights and democracy in Myanmar.

The CHRO has been at the forefront of promoting human rights in Myanmar, and Salai Mang Hre Lian's award is a testament to the organisation's tireless efforts in advocating for the rights of the Myanmar people.



MIZO STUDENTS' UNION CONDEMNS DENIAL OF EXAMINATION OPPORTUNITY

Lamtluang Online News: The Executive Committee of the Mizo Students' Union (MSU) held a meeting on 12 December 2024, and strongly condemned the denial of examination opportunity to some students by certain schools in the current academic session.

During the 2024-25 academic session, some schools have denied permission to some students who they consider to be weak in their studies, due to their desire for good results and high pass percentage, and fear of tarnishing the school's reputation.

The MSU views the denial of examination opportunity to students due to fear of tarnishing the school's reputation as a violation of government directives and an infringement of the rights of students.

Therefore, the MSU urges the people of Mizoram to report the names and school details of students who have been denied examination opportunity due to such reasons.

SPECIAL DRIVE LAUNCHED IN SERCHHIP DISTRICT

Lamtluang Online News: A special drive will be conducted in every village in Serchhip District to maintain a peaceful atmosphere during the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations. The Assistant Commissioner of Excise & Narcotics, Serchhip District has launched a Special Drive Programme, which will run from 1 December 2024 to 3 January 2025.

During the special drive, mobile patrolling will be conducted and breath analysers will also be used. Excise & Narcotics officials will visit every village in Serchhip District and action will be taken against those who break the law.

Any unpleasant incidents reported to the Excise & Narcotics Department during the Christmas and New Year celebrations will be promptly addressed by the officers under the guidance of the Assistant Commissioner of Excise & Narcotics.

MIZORAM GOVERNOR MEETS OIL PALM GROWERS

Lamtluang Online News: Mizoram Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati met with leaders of oil palm growers from Mamit and Kolasib districts at Raj Bhavan on the morning of 12 December 2024.

The Governor informed the gathering that India is heavily reliant on imported edible oil and emphasized the need to increase domestic production to meet the country's demands.

Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati stated that the Central government is implementing the National Mission on Edible Oils-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) to increase oilseed production, and efforts are being made to achieve this goal.

He pointed out that Mizoram has the potential to become a major oil palm producer, similar to Malaysia, and stressed the importance of putting in extra effort to achieve this goal.

During the meeting, the oil palm growers' leaders discussed the issue of viability gap payment for the period 2022-2024, which the Central government had been unable to provide due to certain constraints.

The Governor assured them that he would take up the matter with the Central government and ensure that a solution is found at the earliest.
