MAIMIZIAL BY RAYMOND COLNEY CLAIMS TOP HONOUR AT MIZO SHORT FILM COMPETITION 2026 IN AIZAWL

Lamtluang Online News: Raymond Colney’s short film Maimizial has secured first prize at the Mizo Short Film Competition 2026, with the award ceremony held in Aizawl on 24 February 2026.

The event took place at the Mini Theatre, Lianchhiari Run, Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Treasury Square, Aizawl. It was organised by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations in collaboration with the Mizoram Film Development Committee. A total of 41 short films were submitted for this year’s competition.

The prizes were presented by Pu B Lalchhanzova, Minister for Information and Public Relations and Printing and Stationery. The programme was chaired by Director Pi K Vanlalsangi, while Secretary Pi Betsy Zothanpari Sailo delivered a brief report on the competition.

In his address, the Minister stated that a good film is a powerful medium capable of shaping the thoughts of its audience and guiding them towards what is right. He emphasised that producing a large number of films is less important than ensuring quality. He also announced that, with support from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Lemchan Mizo Film Festival is scheduled to be held in Mizoram from 16 to 18 March.

The Minister further noted that filmmakers who receive recognition and awards tend to approach each subsequent project with deeper meaning and careful planning, highlighting the importance of using time wisely. He congratulated all the award recipients and expressed hope that those who did not win would remain encouraged and continue striving for excellence.

For the competition, 41 short films with a duration of 10 to 15 minutes were submitted by the closing date of 16 February 2026. Following careful evaluation by the panel of judges, the results were officially announced at the ceremony. The first prize carried a cash award of Rs 2,50,000, the second prize Rs 1,25,000 and the third prize Rs 70,000. Five consolation prizes of Rs 30,000 each were also presented.

Second Prize: Zualtei Pa by H Lalsangzela of Zote Entertainment
Third Prize: Nunna by Lalrohlua Renthlei of Phaidung Studio

The recipients of the consolation prizes are Chanchinbumi Christo Pa, Noodles Soup by Margaret B Lalmuanawmi, Vindicta by David Sanga, The Unforgiven Silence by Ruatfela Mart Khiangte, and Thangthawvenga Hruaitea Hauhnar.

MISS MIZORAM 2018 THANTHANI TUALLAWT RETURNS AS JUDGE FOR MISS MIZORAM 2026

Lamtluang Online News: Glamour is building ahead of Miss Mizoram 2026 as former queen Thanthani Tuallawt steps into the spotlight once again — this time as a judge.

The much-anticipated pageant, jointly organised by the Mizoram Journalists' Association and ZONET TV Pvt. Ltd., has confirmed that the Miss Mizoram 2018 titleholder will serve on the judging panel for the 2026 edition. The remaining members of the panel are yet to be revealed.

The road to the crown begins with auditions on 4 March, setting the stage for what promises to be a dazzling competition. The Grand Finale will take place on 24 April at R Dengthuama Hall in Aizawl, where the next beauty queen of Mizoram will be crowned.

FIRST-EVER LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY FOR PANCREATIC CANCER PERFORMED IN MIZORAM

Lamtluang Online News, February 24, 2026: A Gastroenterology training programme and Surgical Workshop was held today (February 24, 2026) at Zoram Medical College and Hospital, Falkawn, Mizoram. The workshop was jointly organised by the Department of Surgery, ZMC&H, and the Association of Surgeons of Mizoram. During the programme, Mizoram witnessed its first-ever laparoscopic surgery for pancreatic cancer.

As part of the Gastroenterology training, visiting doctors from Manipal Hospital, Salt Lake performed procedures related to pancreatic cancer. In collaboration with Dr Benjamine Khiangte, Medical Gastroenterologist (Gastro & Liver Clinic), Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) procedures were provided free of cost to eight selected patients in need.

Notably, this marked the first time that EUS has been conducted in a government hospital in Mizoram. Doctors of ZMC&H highlighted the importance of the EUS equipment, stating that many patients are currently referred outside the state for such procedures. They expressed hope that once the facility becomes fully available in government hospitals, it will significantly reduce the difficulties faced by patients seeking advanced treatment.

The programme was attended by Prof Zoramthara Zadeng, Director; Prof Lalnunmawii Sailo, Medical Superintendent; and Prof C. Vanlalhlua, Sub-Dean (Hospital), who also extended gratitude to the visiting team from Manipal Hospital. It was further stated that under MUHCS, patients can avail themselves of medical services free of charge.

The workshop concluded in the evening with a Continuing Medical Education (CME) seminar. Discussions focused on advancements in Gastroenterology and the future prospects for Mizoram. The session was chaired by Dr Samuel Lalhruaizela, Associate Professor. Prof John Lalliandinga, Head of the Department of Surgery, ZMCH, delivered the vote of thanks. Surgeons from across Mizoram and doctors from ZMCH attended the programme.

DIRECT ENTRY GRANTED TO EIGHT AIZAWL COLLEGE REPRESENTATIVES FOR MISS MIZORAM 2026

Lamtluang Online News, 23 February 2026: Eight colleges from the Aizawl city area have been selected to send their representatives for Miss Mizoram 2026, as ZONET TV Pvt Ltd joins hands with the Mizoram Journalists' Association (MJA) to organise the prestigious state pageant.

After participating in a photo session, the selected College Miss contestants were officially unveiled on the Miss Mizoram official Instagram page on 23 February 2026 at 6:00 pm.

For the Miss Mizoram 2026 pageant, eight colleges have nominated their respective College Miss titleholders. They are:

THREE YOUNG BOYS DROWN IN THENZAWL POND

Lamtluang Online News: Three young boys from Thenzawl Vengthar in Mizoram were found dead on 21 February 2026 (Saturday) evening after drowning in a society pond located near the locality.

The incident came to light at around 6 pm when family members began searching for the children, who had not returned home after going out earlier in the day. During the search, their slippers were discovered near the edge of the pond. The pond was subsequently searched, and the bodies of the three boys were recovered.

The deceased have been identified as H. Lalhriattluanga, aged nine, son of Pu H. Laldawngkima (Presbyterian Church); Lalmuansanga, also aged nine, son of the late Pu Lalthangpuia (Isua Krista Kohhran); and C. Lalbiakhluna, aged seven, son of Pu Lalfakzuala (Isua Krista Kohhran).

The bodies of the three boys will be placed together at Bengkhuaia Hall. In keeping with Mizo tradition, members of the local YMA will observe a 'lumen', an overnight vigil during which the community gathers to sing hymns and keep watch with the deceased. The funeral is scheduled to take place at 12 noon on February 22, 2026 (Sunday).

The tragic incident has cast a pall of grief over the community.

ZPM LEGAL BOARD LODGES COMPLAINT AGAINST ROHMINGLIANA, MNF MLA

Lamtluang Online News, 16 February 2026: The Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) Legal Board has submitted a complaint to the Assembly Speaker against Mizo National Front (MNF) MLA Er. Rohmingliana regarding the manner in which he submitted a report to the Assembly Committee on Petitions.

At around 10:30 a.m. today, the ZPM Legal Board, led by its Chairman Vanlalsiama Pachuau, met Assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama to raise concerns over a Report/Recommendation submitted by Er. Rohmingliana, MLA, on 22 December 2025 (Monday) on behalf of the Assembly Committee on Petitions.

The Board alleged that the report appeared to have been submitted in violation of Assembly procedures and established norms. It further claimed that inaccurate information was provided to the media following the submission of the report. In this regard, the Board has requested a thorough inquiry into the matter.

Assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama received the complaint and stated that it would be examined carefully in accordance with the rules and procedures.

MIZORAM CHIEF SECRETARY CALLS ON MAHARASHTRA CHIEF SECRETARY

Lamtluang Online News, Dated Aizawl, 13 February 2026: Yesterday, Pu Khilli Ram Meena, Chief Secretary of Mizoram, called on the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra, Pu Rajesh Aggarwal, at his office in Mumbai. They discussed matters relating to the proposed Mizoram House to be constructed at Navi Mumbai in the Vashi area.

In 2008, the (CIDCO) had allotted 1,983.48 square metres of land at Vashi, Mumbai, for the construction of a Mizoram State Guest House cum Emporium. However, due to certain issues and delays between CIDCO and the construction agency, the project could not progress as planned.

During their meeting, Pu Khilli Ram Meena requested the Maharashtra Chief Secretary to grant an extension for commencing construction until 31 March this year and to consider waiving the penalty imposed due to the delay in starting the work. Pu Rajesh Aggarwal immediately took up the matter with the officials of CIDCO.

Pu Khilli Ram Meena also visited the proposed construction site. He was accompanied by Pu H. Lalruatliana, Deputy Resident Commissioner, Mumbai Mizoram House.

MIZORAM HEALTH MINISTER INAUGURATES 21ST ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF NORTHEAST INDIA ONCOLOGISTS

Lamtluang Online News, Aizawl, 13 February 2026: The today hosted the inaugural function of the 21st Annual Conference of the at Mc Cabe Hall, Aijal Club, Aizawl. The conference was formally inaugurated by the Health and Family Welfare Minister, Pi Lalrinpuii. Cancer specialists from various parts of India are attending the event.

In her address, the Minister stated that Mizoram has one of the highest incidences of cancer in India, as reflected in various reports under the . She noted that Mizoram and other northeastern states record high prevalence rates of oesophageal, stomach, lung and head and neck cancers. She described it as encouraging that Mizoram is hosting a gathering of leading cancer specialists from across the country at a time when cancer remains a serious challenge, and expressed hope that the conference would yield meaningful outcomes for patients in Mizoram, particularly those affected by cancer.

She further highlighted that concerted efforts are being made to address the high cancer burden in the state. In collaboration with the , the Government of Mizoram has already commenced work on the Mizoram State Super-Specialty Cancer and Research Centre at Zemabawk. The ₹700 crore project will include facilities for bone marrow transplantation, advanced Nuclear Medicine services, PET scan facilities and a range of specialised cancer diagnostic services.

The AONEI conference is held annually in different northeastern states. The 21st edition, hosted by the Mizoram State Cancer Institute, will be held from 13 to 15 February 2026. Over the three-day event, participants will engage in academic sessions, discussions and presentations on various cancer-related topics.

More than 100 members from across India are attending the conference. Eminent cancer specialists delivering lectures include Dr Pankaj Chaturvedi, Director of the , Mumbai; Dr Dodul Mondal, Radiation Oncologist at ; Dr Mohammed Imaduddin, Surgical Oncologist at ; and Dr Harikrishna Kovilapu, Medical Oncologist at .

At the inaugural session, Dr B. Zothankima, Head of the Department of Radiation Oncology, delivered the welcome address. Speeches were also given by AONEI President Dr Jina Bhattacharya, AONEI Secretary Dr Kaberi Kakati and ACTREC Director Dr Pankaj Chaturvedi. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Jeremy L. Pautu, Director of the Mizoram State Cancer Institute.

The Association of Oncologists of Northeast India was established in 2004 by Dr C. Bhuyan, a Medical Oncologist, and Dr Judita Syiemlieh, a Radiation Oncologist, along with around 20 other cancer specialists. In addition to oncologists from the Northeast, the association works in collaboration with surgeons, gynaecologists, ENT specialists, radiologists, physicians, pathologists, microbiologists, palliative care specialists and other medical professionals.

MIZORAM CHIEF MINISTER REVIEWS THENZAWL PEACE CITY MASTER PLAN

Lamtluang Online News, Aizawl, 13 February 2026: Today, the Chief Minister, Lalduhoma, chaired a review meeting at his office to examine the ongoing preparation of the Thenzawl Peace City Master Plan.

The proposed Peace City will cover an area of 60 square kilometres. During the meeting, various land parcels within the proposed area were studied, and plans for different zones and their intended uses were reviewed. These include zones earmarked for residential areas, commercial centres, educational institutions, health facilities, green parks and a sports complex. Provision has also been made for the establishment of an industrial hub. Detailed planning for the allocation and layout of spaces within these zones will be taken forward in due course.

The meeting also discussed areas of the already prepared master plan that require improvement or modification.

It was further informed that a Greenfield City project proposal for Thenzawl Peace City has been submitted to SASCI for consideration. Once the proposal is approved, implementation may commence without delay.

The meeting was attended by Pu K. Sapdanga, Minister for Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation; Pu Vanlaldina Fanai, Commissioner and Secretary to the Chief Minister; Pu Lalmalsawma Pachuau, Secretary, UD and PA; Pi R. Lalrodingi, OSD to the Chief Minister; officials from IPE Global, the master plan consultant; and other government officials.

MIZORAM TOURISM DEPARTMENT OFFICIALS WELCOME BHARAT GAURAV TOURIST TRAIN “NORTH EAST DISCOVERY TOUR” AT SAIRANG

Lamtluang Online News, Aizawl, 12 February 2026: Following the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in August 2025 between the Tourism Department and the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), the Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train, currently on its “North East Discovery Tour” across Northeast India, arrived at Sairang Railway Station today at 9:00 a.m. Officials from the Mizoram Tourism Department, led by Deputy Director Rachel Lalrinhlui and staff, warmly received the train. The arrival of the Bharat Gaurav Train in Mizoram is considered a significant milestone for tourism and an important boost to the promotion of tourism in the state.

The Bharat Gaurav Train arrived from Agartala, Tripura, carrying 81 tourists, including visitors from the USA and Nepal. The Tourism Department officials presented gifts to the visitors. During their stay today, the tourists toured Aizawl and its surrounding areas, visiting places such as Aizawl Zoological Park, Solomon’s Temple, Mizoram State Museum and Aizawl Peak. At 7:00 p.m., they are scheduled to depart for Dimapur, Nagaland, without an overnight stay.

The journey began from Delhi on 3 February 2026. The tour will cover all the states of Northeast India except Manipur, and the group is scheduled to return to Delhi on 18 February 2026.

The Bharat Gaurav Train is specially designed for tourists and has a capacity of 150 passengers. It is equipped with two restaurants and a spa, offering facilities that distinguish it from regular trains. IRCTC organises this special Northeast tour package once a year, and it is open to anyone interested. After accompanying the Department officials on a brief interaction, Train Manager Himangshu Bhatt later saw the guests off towards Aizawl.

DR RICKY LALTHAZUALA BECOMES YOUNGEST MIZO ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

Lamtluang Online News, 11 February 2026: Dr Ricky Lalthazuala, aged 35, has been appointed as an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the National Institute of Technology Mizoram, marking a significant academic milestone. A resident of Ramhlun Venglai, he is recognised as the youngest Mizo to attain the rank of Associate Professor. He is also regarded as the first Mizo in the field of Civil Engineering to hold the position at this level.

Born in February 1991, Dr Lalthazuala pursued his Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering at PES College of Engineering, Karnataka, graduating in 2014. He later completed his Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati in 2016. In 2020, he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree from IIT Guwahati.

In 2021, he joined NIT Mizoram as an Assistant Professor and has since contributed to teaching and research within the Civil Engineering Department. His recent promotion reflects both his academic dedication and his contribution to higher education in Mizoram.

MIZORAM’S MOST FREQUENT BLOOD DONOR MARKS 98TH DONATION

Lamtluang Online News: Mr C. Lalremruata, recognised as the most frequent blood donor in Mizoram, donated blood on Thursday, 15 January 2026, marking his 98th donation at Civil Hospital, Aizawl.

A resident of Electric Veng, Aizawl, Mr Lalremruata began donating blood in 1998 and has continued to do so consistently over the years, demonstrating an outstanding commitment to humanitarian service and the welfare of the community.
