Lamtluang Online News: The Mizoram government has collected ₹ 4,42,98,664 as road maintenance cess and social infrastructure & services cess from petrol and diesel sales from September 1 to November this year.

The Taxation Finance Department had issued a notification on August 30, stating that ₹ 2 each would be levied as social infrastructure & services cess and road maintenance cess on every litre of petrol and diesel.

In October, the government collected ₹ 16,04,852, while in November, the collection was ₹ 4,26,05,312.

According to officials from the Taxation Finance Department, the reason for the higher collection in November was due to technical issues in October that prevented petrol dealers from depositing the cess.

The government had earlier stated that the road maintenance cess would be used exclusively for road maintenance, while the social infrastructure & services cess would be used for upgrading educational infrastructure, healthcare services, skill development, and women's empowerment.
