MIZO ACADEMY OF LETTERS ORGANISES 'PHO CHHUAH RUNPUI' BOOK EXHIBITION

Lamtluang Online News, Aizawl, Mizoram - 25th November 2024 : As part of its Diamond Jubilee celebrations, the Mizo Academy of Letters (MAL) organised a book exhibition, 'Pho Chhuah Runpui', at Vanapa Hall in Aizawl. The exhibition was inaugurated by Prof. Laltluangliana Khiangte, a Donor Member of MAL.

The exhibition features 23 bookstalls from various bookstores in Aizawl, as well as 10 individual book sellers. The books on display are being sold at discounted prices. In addition to the books, the exhibition also showcases handwritten manuscripts and old writing materials of Mizo writers, as well as photographs and books of Mizo Academy of Letters' award winners.

The inauguration ceremony was presided over by MAL President Prof. R. L. Thanmawia, while the Secretary of the Pho Chhuah Runpui Committee, H. Lalawmpuia, presented a report. Prof. Laltluangliana Khiangte, the chief guest, praised MAL's 60-year journey and its contributions to the development of Mizo literature.

MAL was established on 23rd April 1964 and has grown to have over 500 members despite facing various challenges. As per its new constitution, MAL has restructured its organisational setup, with a General Headquarters, three Joint Headquarters, and one branch.

The main Diamond Jubilee celebration of MAL will be held on 29th November 2024 at Pi Zaii Hall, Synod Conference Centre, with Art & Culture Minister C. Lalsawivunga as the chief guest.

AIZAWL MUNICIPAL CORPORATION ANNOUNCES CHRISTMAS DECORATION COMPETITION

Lamtluang Online News: Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) has appealed to various localities in Aizawl to decorate their streets and neighbourhoods for the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations. The top 10 best-decorated localities will be awarded Rs. 50,000 each.

As part of the competition, AMC will form committees in each locality with the help of Local Councils to judge and evaluate the decorations. This is not the first time AMC is awarding cash prizes to the best-decorated localities, and the Tourism department has also organised similar events in the past.

Currently, some localities in Aizawl have already started decorating their streets, and others are also making preparations for the same.

YOUNG MIZO MAN KILLED IN VEHICLE ACCIDENT

Lamtluang Online News: A tragic vehicle accident occurred on Sunday (24 November 2024), resulting in the death of 26-year-old Lalthafamkima, son of Lalmuanpuia, a resident of Bawngkawn Chhim Veng.

According to reports, Lalthafamkima was traveling with six friends in a Bolero vehicle when the accident occurred around 3:40 pm near the Phunchawng Forest Checkgate. The vehicle skidded off the road and crashed into a tree about 100 meters away.

Lalthafamkima sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to the ICU at Greenwood Hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at 1:30 am today (25.11.2024). His wife, Thangzamliani, who was also in the vehicle, escaped with minor injuries.

MIZO MAN DONATES BLOOD FOR 93RD TIME

Lamtluang Online News, 25 November 2024: C Lalremruata, a 44-year-old resident of Electric Veng, Aizawl, has set a record for donating blood the most number of times in Mizoram. Today (25.11.2024), he donated blood for the 93rd time at the Blood Bank of Civil Hospital, Aizawl. Lalremruata, who is determined to continue donating blood as long as he is healthy, has been an inspiration to many with his selfless act.
