CHIEF MINISTER OPENS 8TH NORTH EAST MINI JAMBOREE IN MIZORAM

Lamtluang Online News: The 8th North East Mini Jamboree of the Bharat Scouts & Guides was inaugurated by Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma, who is also the President of the Mizoram Bharat Scouts & Guides, at the Bharat Scouts & Guides Mizoram State Training Centre, Tanhril, on 23rd November 2024.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma welcomed the participants and expressed his hope that they would have a wonderful time during the Jamboree. He emphasized the importance of unity and harmony among people from different regions, languages, and cultures. He stated that the strength of the nation lies in its diversity and the ability of its people to live together in harmony.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the significance of the Jamboree, which aims to promote the values of scouting and guiding, such as teamwork, leadership, and community service. He quoted Lord Baden Powell, the founder of scouting, who said, "The most worth-while thing is to try to put happiness into the lives of others." He encouraged the participants to spread happiness and joy during the Jamboree.

The Chief Minister also expressed his gratitude to the Mizoram Bharat Scouts & Guides for organizing the Mini Jamboree. The event will feature various activities, including camping, hiking, and community service projects.

HOUSE GUTTED IN FIRE IN MUALKAWI VILLAGE

Lamtluang Online News: A devastating fire broke out at a residential house in Mualkawi village, Champhai District, on 23rd November 2024, at around 11:30 am. According to eyewitnesses, the house, belonging to Lalthantluanga, was engulfed in flames, and the occupants were not present at the time of the incident.

The fire was difficult to control due to the remote location of the village and the strong winds in the area. Despite efforts to extinguish the flames, the semi-pucca building was completely gutted. The Fire and Emergency Services in Champhai were informed about the incident, but by the time they arrived, the fire had already spread extensively.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Mualkawi village is located approximately 13 kilometres from Champhai town.



UNION MINISTER ADV. GEORGE KURIAN VISITS HNAHTHIAL DISTRICT

Lamtluang Online News: Adv. George Kurian, Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, visited Hnahthial District on 22nd November 2024. During his visit, he met with district officials and inspected various central scheme projects implemented in the district .

The Minister held a meeting with officials at Horeb Lodge Conference Hall, where he discussed the implementation of various central schemes, including Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), Mid-day Meal, Kisan Credit Card (KCC), Ayushman Bharat, and schemes under the Agriculture and Fisheries Ministries.

Adv. Kurian also inspected various projects, including the Anganwadi-cum-crèche, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary building, Hnahthial District Hospital, and the Solar Pump House under the Jal Jeevan Mission. He expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission and the Solar Pump House project, which provides water to 198 households.

The Minister also visited the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) complex, where he was welcomed with a performance by the Govt. Southern High School Boys Pipe Band. He also visited stalls showcasing various departments, including Agriculture, Sericulture, AH&Vety, ICDS, Horticulture, Fisheries Dept, MHIP, MzSRLM, and others.

Adv. Kurian will depart from Hnahthial on 23rd November 2024, and will head to Delhi after visiting Lengpui Airport.

MIZORAM STATE BOARD FOR WILDLIFE APPROVES KEY PROPOSALS

Lamtluang Online News: The 11th meeting of the Mizoram State Board for Wildlife was held on 22nd November 2024, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma, at the CM's Conference Hall. The meeting approved the wildlife clearance for the project proposal of widening Pukzing to Silsury road, which will be recommended to the National Board for Wildlife.

The meeting also approved the rate proposed by the AH & Vety Department to provide compensation for livestock losses caused by wildlife attacks. The department has been instructed to ensure the implementation of the compensation scheme from the next financial year.

In a significant development, the old forest area above Kawnpui village, covering 620 hectares, will be declared a Community Reserve under Section 36 (c) of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. This is the first time that a Community Reserve will be established in Mizoram.

The meeting also approved the relocation of six families living within Dampui village, part of Thorangtlang Wildlife Sanctuary, and compensation will be provided to facilitate their shift. The meeting was attended by Pu Lalthansanga, Minister for EF&CC, Pu TBC Lalvenchhunga, Adviser to the CM, Pu T. Lalhlimpuia, MLA, and other members.
