MIZO WOMAN DEFIES CONVENTION AS AUTO-RICKSHAW DRIVER

Lamtluang Online News: Pi Lalawmpuii, a 48-year-old resident of Thingkah, Lawngtlai district, has taken up driving an auto-rickshaw to earn a living. She has been driving the auto-rickshaw for the past four months, providing services within the Lawngtlai town area.

As a mother of four, Lalawmpuii's decision to take up this unconventional profession is testament to her determination and resilience. Her husband, Rorelliana, is a carpenter, and the couple have built a stable life for themselves.

Notably, Lalawmpuii is the only female auto-rickshaw driver in Lawngtlai district, and possibly in the entire state of Mizoram. While there are female city bus conductors, two-wheeler taxi drivers and maxi cab drivers in Aizawl and other urban areas, Lalawmpuii's achievement is a significant milestone in rural Mizoram.

Her success story highlights the growing trend of women taking up non-traditional occupations in Mizo society.

As women like Lalawmpuii continue to break barriers and challenge stereotypes, they pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable future.
