MIZORAM GOVERNMENT REVOKES ORDER APPOINTING NON-LOCAL SP

Lamtluang Online News, 28 November 2024: The Mizoram government has revoked its order appointing Shivam Siddarth IPS as the new Superintendent of Police (SP) in Lunglei, following strong opposition from the local people.

The Lunglei residents had opposed the appointment of non-local officers to key positions in the district, citing language barriers and unfamiliarity with local dynamics.

The Young Mizo Association (YMA) Sub-Hqrs Lunglei welcomed the revocation of the order, stating that the appointment of non-locals would cause difficulties for the local populace.

The YMA had also expressed disapproval of the appointment of non-locals to key positions in Lunglei district, including the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police (Southern Range).

The outgoing DC had been requested not to be transferred, but the request was unsuccessful.

The DIG (S-R), who is due to retire next year, has been transferred, and a non-local has been appointed in his place.

The Lunglei district, being a vast and diverse area inhabited by people of different communities, necessitates the appointment of officers familiar with the local language and dynamics to maintain law and order effectively.

NEIHDAWN VILLAGERS REAP TOMATOES HARVEST WINDFALL

Lamtluang Online News: Neihdawn village in Mizoram is poised to reap a bountiful tomato harvest, with 92 out of 150 households successfully cultivating the crop.

The village's tomato farmers are expected to earn over Rs. 1 crore this year, with the first harvest in 2024 yielding 460 quintals and generating Rs. 36,00,000 in revenue.

For the second harvest, farmers are anticipating a production of between 2000-3000 quintals, with an estimated value of Rs. 80,00,000, assuming a market price of Rs. 40 per kilogram.

The village's success in tomato cultivation can be attributed to the favourable climate and soil conditions, as well as the support provided by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Champhai District, which has been promoting tomato cultivation in the region.

The KVK has been providing training and support to farmers, including demonstrations on scientific cultivation of tomatoes, which has enabled the farmers to adopt best practices and improve their yields.

The tomato harvest is expected to bring a significant boost to the local economy, providing a much-needed source of income for the villagers.
