BEGGAR WOMAN RESCUED AND ADMITTED TO SHELTER HOME

Lamtluang Online News: On 14 December 2024, a beggar woman was admitted to a shelter home in Aizawl, Mizoram, after being found near Assam Rifles gate at Aizawl Dawrpui in a very poor condition.

According to Pi Vanramchhuangi (Ruatfela Nu), a social activist, the woman's condition was alarming, with her body barely covered by her skin, and her overall health appearing severely compromised. Her death in the cold winter would have been a tragic incident, tarnishing the reputation of Mizoram as a Christian state.

The woman was allegedly forced to beg, with taxi drivers dropping her off in the morning and picking her up in the evening. Pi Vanramchhuangi condemned this as a horrific form of exploitation.

Following Pi Vanramchhuangi's intervention, the Director of Women and Child Development (WCD) arranged for the woman's admission to Shakti Sadan, a home for destitute women in Tlangnuam, Aizawl. The woman will receive care and support at the shelter home.

Pi Vanramchhuangi hopes that those responsible for the woman's exploitation will be brought to justice soon.
