CHIEF MINISTER PU LALDUHOMA INAUGURATES PLATINUM JUBILEE MEMORIAL STONE OF GOVT. GANDHI MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL

Lamtluang Online News: Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma unveiled the Platinum Jubilee memorial stone at Govt. Gandhi Memorial High School (GM H/S) in Champhai, his and his wife's alma mater, on November 16, 2024, commemorating the school's 75th anniversary.

After inaugurating the memorial stone, he visited the High School Museum, established in 1968, Mizoram's oldest museum, and later interacted with students and visited the school's premises.

Chief Minister said, "I'm delighted to visit my alma mater, which is also home to Mizoram's oldest museum." It brought back many memories and filled my heart with joy.

He shared his personal experiences, "I studied in this school up to class 8 in 1965, but had to discontinue due to the unrest in the state in 1966. After recovering from health issues, I rejoined in 1970 to study class 10 and passed with good grades."

During that time, he attended night classes for Pre-University Course (PUC) while simultaneously engaging in agricultural works.

He was the youth leader of Mizo Union Block during his time in this school. Due to his proficiency in mathematics, Headmaster Pu Thanseia appointed him as a mathematics teacher for Rs. 10 daily.

In the first Mizoram UT election in 1972, Mizo Union formed the government, and Chief Minister Pu Ch. Chhunga appointed him and brought him down to Aizawl.

"GM High School is where I gained the foundation for my current position, learned many things, and will always be unforgettable," he said.

Even when he took oath as Chief Minister, he invited all his class 10 classmates and had a wonderful reunion at his residence. "My classmates remain my closest friends even after passing out; the bonds we formed during our school days have lasted a lifetime."

He encouraged students, "Being part of Mizoram's oldest high school is a privilege. Follow in the footsteps of successful alumni and make the most of this opportunity."

The program was moderated by Pu HT Vanlalsawma, Headmaster. The school presented a memento to the Chief Minister, expressing gratitude for his presence.

Currently, GM High School has 232 students, 14 teaching staff, and 1 non-teaching staff member.

The main celebration of the Platinum Jubilee will take place on November 21-22, led by Home Minister Pu K. Sapdanga, another distinguished alumnus.

TERRACE FARMING PROJECT FAILS TO YIELD EXPECTED RESULTS

Lamtluang Online News: In Hualtu village, a ₹60 lakh terrace construction project initiated by FOCUS (Fostering Climate Resilient Upland Farming Systems) has yielded disappointing results. Despite selecting Lungchhuan, Sialsir, Rullam, and Hualtu villages for integrated farming, farmers struggled to harvest expected crops.

The challenges stem from insufficient water supply, hindering crop growth and disappointing the farmers. According to Hualtu Terrace Chairman Lalrinmawia, around ₹60 lakh was spent on constructing terraces, internal roads, water supply, and storage.

About 40 people manage the village's terraces, but nearby villages have reported similar struggles. Undeterred, farmers remain determined to continue efforts this year and achieve better outcomes, optimistic that their hard work will eventually pay off.
