LEITLANGPUI MUSIC FESTIVAL INAUGURATED BY MIZORAM TOURISM MINISTER PI LALRINPUII

Lamtluang Online News, 14 November 2024: Mizoram Tourism Minister Pi Lalrinpuii inaugurated the Leitlangpui Music Festival on November 14, 2024, at Kawmzawl, Pukpui, Lunglei. The festival will run from November 14 to 16, 2024. During the inauguration, Minister Pi Lalrinpuii noted that past festivals organized by Mizoram's Tourism Department lacked community ownership.

To address this, the department will revise its festival management approach by outsourcing through tenders to encourage community involvement. The new plan allows people to take ownership of the festival. Instead of "Serkawn Concert," a more inclusive festival name was sought. The festival was renamed "Leitlangpui Music Festival" to create a more inclusive platform for Mizoram's musicians and composers.

This revival of the 1932 Serkawn Concert, inspired by Zosap Missionary Pu HW Carter in 1930, aims to preserve Mizoram's culture and traditions. Minister Pi Lalrinpuii emphasized that the festival's success depends on local people, not just the government or organizers. She stressed that if locals don't appreciate their own culture, others won't either.

The festival's success also relies on musicians and composers. Minister Pi Lalrinpuii urged musicians to utilize this opportunity and make the festival a regular event. She hopes the Leitlangpui Music Festival will become a platform for growth in music and arts, promoting Mizoram globally, attracting tourists, and generating income for locals.

Organising Secretary and Lunglei Municipal Council CEO Pu Donny Lalruatsanga delivered the welcome speech, thanking the Mizoram government for initiating the festival. He acknowledged the efforts of involved departments. Mizos find solace in music during sorrow and happiness. The Leitlangpui Music Festival aims to promote music, nurture young talent, and honor musicians.

BCM General Secretary Rev. Dr. R. Lalbiakliana led the prayer during the inauguration. Tourism Director Pi R. Lalrodingi delivered the closing remarks. The festival features various cultural performances, band performances, and special items.

Food stalls, drink stalls, and souvenir shops have been set up for festival attendees. The festival schedule includes a Band Contest on November 15 at 12:00 pm, followed by a concert at 3:00 pm. The final concert will take place on November 16 at 2:00 pm.

The event management was outsourced to Brighter Co. & BBY Animals Event Management Team through tender. The Organising Committee, chaired by DC Lunglei, worked tirelessly to ensure the festival's success.
