MANIPUR VIOLENCE ESCALATES: 11 HMAR VILLAGE VOLUNTEERS KILLED IN CRPF, POLICE OPERATION

Lamtluang Online News, November 12, 2024: Yesterday, around 3 pm, a tragic incident unfolded in Manipur, resulting in the deaths of 11 Hmar volunteers at the hands of combined CRPF and Manipur Police forces at Jakuradhor Karong.

The incident was triggered by the murder of Hmar woman Zosangkim, allegedly perpetrated by Meitei extremists.

The clash started as Hmar Village Volunteers targeted Meitei residences, citing their involvement with Arambai Tengol militants.

According to Manipur Police, the volunteers attacked CRPF posts and Borobekra police station, resulting in a 45-minute gunfight that killed more than 10 people.

The Hmar Students' Association has strongly condemned the incident, accusing CRPF and Police of collusion with Meitei extremists.

The Kuki-Zo Council has announced a total shutdown in Kangpokpi and Churachandpur districts in protest.

This incident is part of the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur, which began on May 3, 2023, between Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, resulting in 221 fatalities and over 60,000 displaced individuals, with both sides trading accusations of violence and extremism.
