Disrespecting Elected Representatives: Assam Rifles Under Fire for Mizoram Convoy Controversy

Assam Rifles Stops Mizoram Minister's Convoy

The October 17, 2024, incident involving Assam Rifles forces intercepting the Mizoram Power and Minister Mr. F Rodingliana's convoy near Bung Bangla (few miles away from Aizawl) is deeply concerning and reprehensible. This action constitutes a blatant disregard for Mizoram's elected representatives and an affront to the state's civil society.

Reports indicate that Assam Rifles detained the Minister & MLA Mr. F Rodingliana and his official team, who were traveling back from his constituency, by erecting metal barricades and blocking the road with vehicles.

Past tensions between Assam Rifles and the Mizoram government have been exacerbated by instances of contempt and disregard for local laws, notably in August 2020.

Given Mizoram's distinction as one of India's most peaceful states, with an exemplary literacy rate, it is imperative that Assam Rifles adopt a respectful and cooperative approach.

The primary duty of jawans is to safeguard civilians and elected representatives, not disrupt public order.

This incident underscores the critical need for enhanced communication and collaboration between Assam Rifles and the Mizoram government to prevent future occurrences.
