SICK MAN CARRIED 10 KM IN BAMBOO STRETCHER TO MAMIT HOSPITAL DUE TO IMPASSABLE ROAD

Lamtluang Online News, 9 July 2025: In a distressing reminder of poor rural infrastructure, a 56-year-old man from Phaizau village in Mamit district, Mizoram, was carried on a bamboo stretcher for nearly 10 kilometers to reach the district hospital in Mamit.

The patient, who was critically ill, was carried by fellow villagers starting at around 9:00 AM. After three hours of strenuous effort through hilly terrain, they reached Mamit District Hospital by noon, where he was immediately admitted for treatment.

Although the road connecting Mamit to Phaizau was constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) between 2018 and 2020, it has not been properly maintained. During the rainy season, the road becomes completely unusable for vehicles, forcing villagers to resort to such extreme measures during medical emergencies.

Villagers have expressed concern over the lack of maintenance and urged the authorities to take immediate action to restore road access, especially during monsoon months.
