FORMER IAS OFFICER Dr. LALZIRMAWIA CHHANGTE APPOINTED AS MIZORAM STATE INFORMATION COMMISSIONER

Lamtluang Online News, 27 February 2026: ccording to a notification issued by the General Administration Department of the Government of Mizoram, Dr Lalzirmawia Chhangte, IAS (Retd.), has been appointed as the new State Information Commissioner under the Mizoram State Information Commission.

Dr Lalzirmawia hails from Tarpho village. He joined the Mizoram Civil Service in 1991 and was promoted to the Indian Administrative Service in 2019. During his service under the Government of Mizoram, he held several important positions and retired from the post of Secretary to the Government of Mizoram.

In terms of academic qualifications, he holds M.A., LL.B., B.C.S., a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration and a Doctor of Ministry degree.

LUNGLEI CONFIRMED AS HEADQUARTERS OF MIZORAM STATE UNIVERSITY AFTER ASSEMBLY APPROVAL

Lamtluang Online News,, 25 February 2026: The Mizoram Legislative Assembly has passed the Mizoram State University (Amendment) Bill, 2026, formally confirming that the headquarters of Mizoram State University will be located in Lunglei.

The Bill was introduced in the House by Dr Vanlalthlana, Minister for Higher and Technical Education. Following detailed deliberations, the House approved the amendment.

While presenting the Bill, the Minister recalled that the original Mizoram State University Bill, 2025 had been passed by the Mizoram Legislative Assembly on 4 March 2025. Subsequent steps were initiated to operationalise the university, including the creation of posts and the issuance of advertisements to recruit essential staff. Preparations were also underway to renovate the Geology and Mining Department office at Luangmual in Aizawl to serve as the proposed headquarters.

However, representations were received from various quarters, including Lunglei, Champhai and Mamit, both before and after the passage of the original Act. Following discussions with non governmental organisations and local MLAs, the Council of Ministers reviewed the matter on 17 November 2025. After careful consideration, it resolved that the headquarters should be located in Lunglei in order to address regional imbalance and promote equitable development.

The Chief Minister subsequently announced on 20 November 2025 that the headquarters of Mizoram State University would be established in Lunglei.

Given the need for further scrutiny of certain provisions, a new drafting committee was constituted to review the existing Act. After obtaining approval from the Council of Ministers, the amended Bill was placed before the House during the current session.

The Minister stated that the primary objective behind the amendment was to correct regional imbalance. He further informed the House that three sections of the Act have been amended under the new Bill.

More than 20 members participated in the discussion and expressed their views before the Bill was passed.

MAIMIZIAL BY RAYMOND COLNEY CLAIMS TOP HONOUR AT MIZO SHORT FILM COMPETITION 2026 IN AIZAWL

Lamtluang Online News: Raymond Colney’s short film Maimizial has secured first prize at the Mizo Short Film Competition 2026, with the award ceremony held in Aizawl on 24 February 2026.

The event took place at the Mini Theatre, Lianchhiari Run, Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Treasury Square, Aizawl. It was organised by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations in collaboration with the Mizoram Film Development Committee. A total of 41 short films were submitted for this year’s competition.

The prizes were presented by Pu B Lalchhanzova, Minister for Information and Public Relations and Printing and Stationery. The programme was chaired by Director Pi K Vanlalsangi, while Secretary Pi Betsy Zothanpari Sailo delivered a brief report on the competition.

In his address, the Minister stated that a good film is a powerful medium capable of shaping the thoughts of its audience and guiding them towards what is right. He emphasised that producing a large number of films is less important than ensuring quality. He also announced that, with support from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Lemchan Mizo Film Festival is scheduled to be held in Mizoram from 16 to 18 March.

The Minister further noted that filmmakers who receive recognition and awards tend to approach each subsequent project with deeper meaning and careful planning, highlighting the importance of using time wisely. He congratulated all the award recipients and expressed hope that those who did not win would remain encouraged and continue striving for excellence.

For the competition, 41 short films with a duration of 10 to 15 minutes were submitted by the closing date of 16 February 2026. Following careful evaluation by the panel of judges, the results were officially announced at the ceremony. The first prize carried a cash award of Rs 2,50,000, the second prize Rs 1,25,000 and the third prize Rs 70,000. Five consolation prizes of Rs 30,000 each were also presented.

First Prize: Maimizial by Raymond Colney

Second Prize: Zualtei Pa by H Lalsangzela of Zote Entertainment

Third Prize: Nunna by Lalrohlua Renthlei of Phaidung Studio

The recipients of the consolation prizes are Chanchinbumi Christo Pa, Noodles Soup by Margaret B Lalmuanawmi, Vindicta by David Sanga, The Unforgiven Silence by Ruatfela Mart Khiangte, and Thangthawvenga Hruaitea Hauhnar.

MISS MIZORAM 2018 THANTHANI TUALLAWT RETURNS AS JUDGE FOR MISS MIZORAM 2026

Lamtluang Online News: Glamour is building ahead of Miss Mizoram 2026 as former queen Thanthani Tuallawt steps into the spotlight once again — this time as a judge.

The much-anticipated pageant, jointly organised by the Mizoram Journalists' Association and ZONET TV Pvt. Ltd., has confirmed that the Miss Mizoram 2018 titleholder will serve on the judging panel for the 2026 edition. The remaining members of the panel are yet to be revealed.

The road to the crown begins with auditions on 4 March, setting the stage for what promises to be a dazzling competition. The Grand Finale will take place on 24 April at R Dengthuama Hall in Aizawl, where the next beauty queen of Mizoram will be crowned.

Meanwhile, preparations are in full swing across the state. The MJA is currently overseeing the selection of district representatives, with each district expected to officially announce its contestant on 5 March.
