BROTHERLY BLOODSHED: LUNGMUAT MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT

Lamtluang Online News Report: 5 November 2024: Kolasib Fast Track Court, presided over by Judge R. Vanlalena, has sentenced Lalthakima (34) to life imprisonment for brutally murdering his elder brother, Lalrammawia (53), with an axe while he slept at their Lungmuat village residence on November 10, 2020. The fatal attack occurred at 1:15 pm, resulting in Lalrammawia's instantaneous death.

The siblings had a history of quarrels, which ultimately led to the tragic incident. On the day of the murder, they had a heated argument temporarily resolved by family members. However, Lalthakima claimed Lalrammawia later attempted to shoot him with a gun, prompting him to retaliate with an axe.
The court rejected Lalthakima's self-defense claim, citing eyewitness testimony from their father, who witnessed the aftermath. Judge R. Vanlalena delivered the verdict, stating Lalthakima's actions constituted premeditated murder. Lalthakima's confession and eyewitness account were key evidence.
